Also opening the garage door opener has been a big problem until now but the new technology now ensures that its no more a big problem.

Electric power is the most extensively used fuel for opening the garage door opener.

Also what will you do when the power fails.Although not a routine proble but who will predict the ever unpredictable whether changes, lightning and more.

If power failure is your problem and its a recurrent problem then we recommened the 2500/3500 – DC Motor Belt Drive with EverCharge Battery Backup System .Its made by the liftmaster professional. It can work for full 20 cycles 24 hours a day.Now no more outing in the bad whether just because your garage door opener faisl to open.

Also the new addition has been the new motion detecting control panels built by many leading companies now.

Consider the warranty for all these garage door openers.Always enquire if it has a lifetime gwarranty. Most of the times there is a lifetime warranty on belt and motor only but not on the battery which may have a warranty for 1-3 years.

Commercial Vs Resedential Garage door openers

Commercial are used many times a day but resedential may be used not so often. And thereforewe highly recommened that while selecting a commercial garage door opener always go for the one which is more heavily built and extremely durable.

You have belt drive, screw drive and chain drive models. So select the one most ideal for you.

The last aspect I want to cover is who will fit it?

You have 2 options here. You can either fir it yourself if you have the time and patience to do it or hire a professional to do the job for you.

Visit our site www.garage-dooropeners.com for all the information garage door openers and use our resource centre to make the best buying decision.

Every year, millions of people around the world lose their lives or have them seriously disrupted because of floods, tsunamis, wildfires, earthquakes, blizzards and hurricanes.

In today’s troubled world, we face even greater threats from terrorism, civil unrest, explosions and the possibility of chemical, biological or even nuclear attack.

In the United States, the terrorist threat is not only from overseas groups; domestic terrorism has been with us for decades. Violence on the road and in our places of work and schools is another growing area of concern.

?In the last 25 years there has been more than 320 domestic terrorist incidents and suspected incidents ? an average out of one every month over this period.

?Over a quarter of the U.S. population are children. In the last eight years more than 40 students, teachers and custodians have been shot dead at incidents in schools.

?More than 1.7 million people are the victims of violent crime while at work.

?There are 1,200 road rage related deaths every year with a further 40,000 people killed in traffic crashes and half a million hospitalized, “The threat is real and it is growing,” warns Is America Safe.com, a new website dedicated to protecting Americans and the Homeland from natural disasters and terrorist attacks.

Every year about 1.7 million people are victims of violent crime while working or on duty. About 75% of these incidents ? around 1.3 million ? are simple assaults while an additional. However, over 800 workplace homicides occur every year ? more than two every day somewhere in the country.

“Not only are many Americans not safe at work, many bosses are doing little to protect their workers in the event of an emergency ? whether from natural causes or man-made such as violence and terrorism,” says Is America Safe.com spokesperson Don Philpott,

“It is a disturbing thought that more than half the businesses in the United States do not have a crisis management plan ? what to do in the event of an emergency – and many that do, do not keep it up to date. Even fewer businesses and organizations have a physical security plan to protect their building and people who work in it,” he says.

“How many of these buildings are safe from terrorist attack or natural disaster. And what about the nation’s 110 million households? How many families would know what to do in the event of another Katrina or other emergency,” says Philpott.

“Terrorism is not a new challenge and it is not going to go away any time soon so we have a duty to our families, friends and loved ones to ensure that the places where we live, work, learn and play are secure and that the people using them are safe,” he says.

Is America Safe.com has launched a series of practical handbooks on how to plan for and survive a major emergency whether it is a natural disaster like a hurricane or flooding, or a man-made incident, such as a terrorist attack.

“Our aim is not to alarm people but to prepare and protect them so that they have the tools they needed to survive, get on with their lives and preserve the freedoms that we all hold so dear,” he adds.

Ends

Don Philpott has been writing, reporting and broadcasting about security, civil unrest and terrorism for almost 40 years. For 20 years he was a senior correspondent with Reuters-Press Association, the wire service, traveling the world reporting on major events and trouble spots including Northern Ireland, Lebanon, Israel, South Africa and the Far East. He is now senior correspondent with Homeland Defense Journal, the leading homeland security publication in the U.S. , and he writes for magazines and newspapers in the United States and Europe.

He is the author of more than 50 books and is a regularly contributor to radio and television programs on security issues. His latest book to be published this fall is The Building Security Handbook.

He has produced special reports on Protecting the Athens Olympics, The Threat from Dirty Bombs, Anti-Terrorism Measures in the UK, The National Guard , Nanotechnology and the U.S, Military and The Global Impact of the London Bombings, published in August, and which resulted in a number of radio interviews in the U.S. and UK

They are crimes of opportunity. They pick what appears to be a simple target. If they see a greater risk than they anticipated, they move onto a safer target. Therefore the more effort you take to keep your home from seeming to be a simple target, the safer you will be.

A multilayered structure is the best way to approach arranging your home security, and the first layer is the landscaping and other features of your yard.

Landscaping and Yard Security

A few simple changes to your landscaping can help to protect your home from would be burglars. They are looking for a home they can get into and out of quickly; the more time they spend in your home the more chance of getting caught. Their best target is a home surrounded by tall hedges and shrubs, which restricts visibility from the street and your neighbours’ houses.

Trim your shrubbery and trees so that your doors and windows can be seen by neighbors, and from the street, by forgoing a little privacy you will not be providing a hiding place for a burglar. If you have more than one floor, prune trees away from upper floor windows to prevent an intruder using them as a ladder, also make sure any trellises won’t provide a convenient ladder to gain entry to the upper floors.

All planting close to the sidewalk, driveways, doors or gates, should be kept low say no more than two feet in height. As you move further away from the sidewalk you can increase the height but keep it down to no more than four feet.

Any plant under the window should be kept below the windowsill.

Trees should have their lower branches trimmed to at least seven feet off the ground.

Be sure to keep your lawn trimmed; an uncut lawn will indicate to a potential burglar that you have been away from your home for some time.

By placing gravel on the ground under windows you will be warned if someone walks on it, this can be a useful psychological deterrent. Remember not to have any large rocks or stones near glass windows or doors. There’s no point in providing a burglar with his tools!

Plant spiny (thorny) plants along fences and under windows, and on border fences, roses are ideal. Protecting your home with spiny plants is as good as using barbed wire, and it looks a lot better too.

Street Numbers.

Make sure your house number can be seen easily from the street. This can save time for the police and emergency services if they need to find your home.

It is best to use numbers made of reflective materials, or alternatively black on white, they should be at least six inches high to facilitate visibility from the street. Keep the number clean and trim any plants, so it can be seen. The number should be illuminated and near the front door or the garage entrance.

Limiting Access to Yards and Store Rooms:

The main thing burglars are looking for is an obstruction free and speedy exit. Fences will stop burglars from carrying away your larger processions, if the gates are locked. Gates should be locked at all times!

Make sure that any ladders and tools are stored in a garage or a storage shed, and these should be locked when not in use. To increase security chain your ladder to the wall of the garage when it is not being used.

The idea is to use the landscaping to control access to your property. Proper fencing hedges etc. create barriers that will make a potential burglar feel uncomfortable as they approach your home, but will not prevent a neighbour or passer by from seeing any unusual activity.

I will be covering additional steps you can take to improve your home security in the next article in this series.

Did you know that fire is the third leading cause of accidental deaths in the United States, yet most people ignore it. More than 150 workplace fires occur every day. So many of theses untimely deaths could have been prevented if they only had a plan.

The number one tip any family can have is, make sure all family members know what to do in the event of a fire. In a fire, timing is very critical. Don’t waste time getting dressed, don’t search for pets or valuables. Just get out! Set up a way for everyone to sound a family alarm. Screaming, pounding on walls, yelling “fire”!

If a fire happens in your home, you have to get out fast! Prepare for a fire emergency by sitting down with your family and agreeing on an escape plan. Be sure that everyone knows at least two escape exits, the doors and windows from every room. Decide on a meeting place outside where everyone will meet after they escape the fire. Have your entire household practice your escape plan at least twice a year.

Smoke detectors can alert you to a fire in your home in time for you to escape the blaze, it’s esp. useful when the family is asleep. Install smoke detectors on every floor of your home, including the basement. Test detectors every month, following the manufacturer’s directions, and replace batteries once a year, or whenever a detector “chirps” to signal low battery power. Make sure your alarm works at all times! A non functional smoke detector can’t save your life or your family’s. Replace detectors that are more than a years old. Careless smoking is the leading cause of fire deaths in North America. Smoking in bed or when you are drowsy can be extremely dangerous. Provide smokers with ashtrays and soak butts with water before discarding them. Before going to bed or leaving home after a smoker has been smoking, check around and make sure there aren’t any lit buds.

Never leave cooking unattended. Keep cooking areas clear of combustibles. Turn pot handles inward on the stove where you can’t bump them and children can’t grab them and burn themselves. If grease catches fire in a pan, slide a lid over the pan to smother the flames and turn off the heat. Leave the lid on until cool. For more safety tips and products visit www.safetyrus.com

Nine of these end up becoming hurricanes with five becoming deadly major hurricanes. If you live in the southeastern part of the U.S. then you know that hurricane season started on June 1st. Are you prepared for Hurricane season? Did you know that Hurricane season lasts until the end of November? Have you gone out and bought all the supplies that you may need? This article is written to help you prepare for any kind of hurricane. It will also provide you with a list of items that are essential for any storm.

What do you need to do in order to prepare for a hurricane? If you live near the coastline, and a hurricane with deadly winds is going to make landfall, then you might consider evacuating and going to a shelter. You need to keep watching the news to see if the state has declared a state of emergency. If you are in the path of a land-falling hurricane, then you should prepare and have a list of supplies ready. List of supplies include: a first aid kit with all the necessary medications, canned food and an opener, plenty of water to last for at least 3 days, flashlights, a battery powered radio and extra batteries. Other supplies may include sandbags, tape, generator, raingear, sleeping bags and lastly protective clothing.

In order for one to be on the safe side, you should prepare for the worst and hope for the best. No one knows how deadly and destructive these hurricane winds are going to be. Therefore, you should have all your supplies next to you. According to Hurricanetips.com, folding beach chairs make an excellent alternative to cots. “They fold flat, double as a chair and allow you to store 16 gallon plastic storage tubs underneath to save space and secure your belongings.” (www.hurricanetips.com)

It is really important that you prepare a checklist of items that you will need. It is also important that you have a course of action ready along with important phone numbers that you might need in case of an emergency. Run through the checklist and make sure you have all your items gathered. Once all your items are gathered, make sure you have them put in a container that is small and portable. This way if you are forced to leave your home, then all you have to do is take your container with you. Now if you are forced to leave your home, you will need something to sleep on. Folding beach chairs make a good choice because they are light, they fold fast for easy storage and lastly they are easily transported. According to the Red Cross, shelters will usually allow you to keep anything that will fit in 18 square feet, slightly larger than the space for each beach chair. (www.redcross.com) Beach chairs make a great choice for storms that might require you to leave your home.

Another great item, are these new flashlights being sold over the Internet. Every year (hurricane season) people rush to Home Depot and Lowes to buy flashlights and batteries just in case the storm knocks out power lines causing a power outage for days. This way they are prepared. Who knows how long it will take for Utility companies to restore power? Why spend money on buying batteries and replacing bulbs when you can buy these new flashlights that work without batteries or the need to replace bulbs? You pick up one flashlight and your done. The flashlight will last you forever. These new and innovative flashlights are just what you need for hurricanes and other storms. They are really cheap and compact. Should you lose power, these flashlights will provide you with a guaranteed source of light. And the best thing about these flashlights is that they are stylish and light to carry.

These new flashlights are the shaking flashlights and the hand crank flashlights.

The shaking flashlights have an electric conductor that moves through some magnetic field, to generate electric current. All you need to do is shake the flashlight and electricity is generated. The light that is produced is very visible allowing you to see for a far distance. The hand crank flashlights are just as easy as the shaking flashlights. All you need to do is crank the flashlight for seconds and you will get a bright and visible source of light. These new and innovative flashlights are a far more, better choice than regular flashlights. These flashlights will save you the hassle of running out to the stores and looking to spend a lot of money on replacing batteries and bulbs. Eliminate the need to replace your bulbs or batteries. Another great product to keep around for hurricanes is the hand crank flashlight with a radio. This flashlight just like I mentioned above needs no batteries. Minutes of cranking, provides you with a source of light. And the best thing about this product is that it has a built in radio that has great reception. So if you are indoors and you lose power during a hurricane, you can still listen to the radio for the latest weather updates. All these products mentioned above are great for hurricane season.

Once these hurricanes make landfall, they can be really deadly. The heavy rains, strong winds and gigantic waves can damage buildings, trees and cars. They will even knock down power lines, leaving you without power for days. A good example would be the state of Florida last year. Hurricane Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne brought destructive winds and rain that knocked down power lines leaving most of the state without power for days. People rushed to the stores for flashlights, batteries, generators and anything they could find. It was too late and people were on top of each other fighting for what was left in these stores. Hurricanes cannot be controlled but our vulnerability can be reduced through preparedness. Be prepared for this year!

These new flashlights and the beach chairs mentioned can be found at Coconutz Home and Garden. All you have to do is visit the website and see for yourself. If those parents had installed a hidden camera in their home, the police could use the recordings from the camera and have a quick lead to find the child and return them safely. Being prepared for the unthinkable act of your child being abducted by installing hidden cameras is much better than wishing later you had installed cameras!

You can order a hidden camera and you can easily install it within the week!! Hidden cameras will make our children safer.

An Outdoor Motion light system with cameras can be placed on the outside of your house. If someone comes around, the motion lights come on and the camera begins to record the action on your VCR inside.

I’m sure you have assets such as a swimming pool, garage, and yard furniture that you want to protect. Install a camera nearby and if something disappears or is damaged, you have a picture of the person who did the unlawful thing.

If you have cash missing from the register at your business, you should install a hidden camera near the cash register. In your business warehouse where you are missing merchandise, install a hidden camera. You would know immediately who the thief was if you would install the Down View Smoke Detector Camera over a cash register or desk. This smoke detector camera can be wall or ceiling mounted for the best viewing angle.

The extent of this payment will depend on your insured sum and earnings. Life insurance and life assurance may be interlinked in advertisements, though bear in mind the two policies are different. Life assurance is a form of financial protection which is also an investment, as you should always get a pay-out at the end of the term of the policy. Life insurance on the other hand is simply financial protection for your family, avoiding the issue of debt in the event of your death.

According to an article by the Fair Investment Company, the British life insurance industry shrank to almost half the size of the pensions industry last year and according to the Association of British Insurers, less than 50% of UK households hold a life insurance policy.

In their most recent newsletter about this issue, the Association of British Insurers found that 25% of mortgage holders had insufficient life insurance to cover their debt. The ratio of new life insurance policies to new mortgage loans was apparently 68% in 1994, but by 2004 this had dropped by half to 33%.

The absence of mortgage life coverage poses a serious risk for the dependants of homeowners. If banks were to embark on wide scale repossessions as a result of this absence of life insurance, this would impose a risk on their loan books and reputations. The Association of British Insurers also state that one of the main reasons behind the increased gap between mortgage loans and insurance is the emergence of people remortgaging their property to take advantage of equity release through a rise in value, without insuring their borrowing. In their report it was stated that around 63% of new mortgage loans were remortgages or further advances, compared to 34% in 1994. Egg reported at around the same time, that three out of four of these new loan homeowners had no intention of insuring this additional debt. This is particularly worrying if couples are remortgaging their property later in life ? towards retirement, given that should anything happen to the breadwinner, the partner would be left with significant debts without the capability of paying the loan back.

Reasons for the downward trend in life insurance take-up include:

* Relaxation in lending policy ? increased competition in the mortgage market means that lenders are not forcing life insurance policies on their customers

* High house prices have stretched homebuyers, in particular first time home-buyers, in terms of their mortgage repayments, that the additional costs of a life insurance policy are deemed too expensive

* There are more households with no dependents

If you’re interested in researching a life insurance policy, make sure you shop around. UK websites such as moneynet ( life insurance ) provide life insurance and life assurance information guides, as well as providing price comparison research for the different products. In the states, the website LowerMyBills.com also offers a similar service.

Because of the various factors listed above, people have also become less familiar with the term life insurance and without the awareness there is little recognition of the importance of this type of insurance. However as speculation increases that UK households are not coping with their debt, so should the awareness of life insurance as an essential product in the personal finance portfolio.

Fire extinguishers contain a powder which is known to instantly put out a fire and prevent it from spreading any further. In 2004, fire extinguishers saved over 25 lives in the United States and prevented over 1,500 injuries. Fire departments all over the world encourage home owners to have at least one fire extinguisher in the home at all times. That said, studies show that approximately 80% of homeowners do have at least one in their home, but the question is do they know how to use it?

Sure it’s great to know there’s a fire extinguisher close by if you ever need one, but what most people don’t understand is if you don’t know how to use these devices, they are practically useless. Everyone should know how to use a fire extinguisher and if you are one of the many who don’t, the follow steps will provide you with everything you need to know.

The easiest way to learn how to use a fire extinguisher is to memorize the acronym P.A.S.S. and memorize the meaning of each letter. The following list will provide you with the meanings of each letter:

P ? The first letter to remember is “P”. This indicates to the user to pull the pin. Pulling the pin is the first step in the process and is crucial to the successful execution of fire extinguishers.

A ? The “A” stands for Aim. This tells the user to aim the fire extinguisher nozzle towards the base of the flames.

S ? The first “S” stands for Squeeze. This advises the user to squeeze the trigger while maintaining the extinguisher in an upright position.

S ? The last “S” stands for Sweep. The user will then sweep the extinguisher from side to side making sure to cover the area of the fire completely.

Remembering the word PASS can save the life of you or someone you love.

Having a fire extinguisher in your home is a great idea however the location of your extinguisher is a determining factor in whether or not it will be useful. You will want to keep your fire extinguisher in areas which are most likely to produce fires such as kitchens, near fireplaces, garages or areas with a number of candles (perhaps a bedroom).

Do not keep your fire extinguisher near your stove. Stoves are a prime target for fires and should a fire break out near your stove, you will want to be able to access your extinguisher. You may also want to keep your extinguisher near an exit so you can leave it the fire becomes too large.
